Although some numbers have been incorporated into the story, this book is definitely not about statistics. It tells about the human cost of immigration from the point of view of those who were not yet adults when the move occurred. Numerous anecdotes and quotes illustrate what happens when a rural child or teenager speaking Dutch only is parachuted into an English-speaking society without benefit of any preparation or guidance.
