Fifty Miles of Elbow Room

Rev. Ford Washington McGee was a Sanctified evangelist from Texas, active in the Church of God In Christ denomination. The words "Texan" and "Sanctified" should tip you off that this 1930 recording, included on the essential Anthology Of American Folk Music collection, is incredible. The hot little band is cookin', and the singing... well, just download it and hear for yourself.

Rev. F. W. McGee - Fifty Miles of Elbow Room

Oh, when the gates swing wide on the other side, just beyond the sunset sea
There'll be room to spare as we enter there - room for you and room for me...

Just thought I'd drop in a quick hello, Rob, and hope things are going well for you and the family.

Thanks for reminding me of this recording. You inspired me to post some thoughts about it at The Celestial Monochord (the entry for January 14, 2006).
