I've always preferred
Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Quartet recordings over his better known stuff with the Bluegrass Boys. This is a 1954
Decca recording.
- Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Quartet - A Voice From On High
I suspect many theologians would quibble with Mr. Monroe's lyric: "So we'll follow his footsteps up the narrow way / and we'll pay our debts on that great judgement day". Still, this is one of my favourite bluegrass gospel songs, and even the phenomenal
Stanley Brothers version seems to fall short of the BGQ's original.
Go get some.
