There Ain't No Grave Gonna Hold My Body Down

Brother Claude Ely was a Holiness preacher, faith healer and musician from Appalachia. His music was once described as "unhinged delirium"; I'd call it raw and passionate, but either works. Mark Hodges wrote that Ely "sounds like he could reach right through the speakers and smack you right upside the head with his Good Book without missing a beat."

I also just found out there is a book coming out soon on Claude Ely's life. It can be found at www.claudeely.com ...

I'm excited about buying it. It's entitled "Ain't No Grave: The Life and Legacy of Brother Claude Ely." I think the website said the author's name is Macel Ely.

I started buying Brother Claude Ely's records about six months ago. I have all of his LPs and and 78s and 45s plus extras. I am looking for any radio broadcast recordings or song service church recordings and sermons to add to my stack. So far my collection has run me about $1000.00 I can't wait to read the book.

I remember visiting family in the area where Claude Ely lived and sang in a little log cabin church -If my memory serves me correctly, his family lived up behind the church. I've heard him sing this song many times. Believe he was even a distant relative as almost everyone in Pucket's Creek in the Pennington Gap, VA, were related. Was glad to see this website and will visit it and order the book.
